1. Everett Field Park

The well-maintained Everett Field Park at 170 Everett Avenue in Newark is a popular outdoor playground that boasts the brand-new Newark Skate Park, welcoming all wheels, from skateboards and bikes to scooters, skates, and wheelchairs. Here you can play a challenging game of disc golf, stroll down the paved walking trail, and enjoy a picnic at the pavilion.

There are practice baseball fields, a playground, and a fenced-in dog park with separate sections to keep big and little leapers safely inside and enough space for your four-legged friend to run around, play, and stretch his legs.

2. Horn’s Hill Bike Park

The Horn’s Hill Bike Park at 1250 Horns Hill Road NE in Newark is one of Ohio’s top mountain biking trail systems. The park offers riders 18 trails, including four dedicated downhill and cross-country flow trails, clearly marked and rated for beginner, intermediate, and advanced mountain bikers. The park’s front trails are open daily and usually dry throughout the year.

Regulars warn that the back trails, however, do get soft in the winter and should be avoided. The park also has a shelter, a playground, and restroom facilities and even offers Shuttle days to transport you and your bike to the park.

3. Outdoor Fitness Park

The Outdoor Fitness Park off Sharon Valley Road in Newark is a fantastic outdoor fitness facility for everyone in town, including people with mobility limitations. The park’s fitness equipment includes a Three-Person Static Combo that helps to strengthen the chest, shoulders, upper, mid, and lower abs, forearms, and triceps, and the Four-Person Pendulum Abs and Dips Station to develop strength, flexibility, and balance.

The low-impact exercise Two-Person Cross-Country Ski helps build endurance and flexibility of the upper body muscles, and the Four-Person Leg Press is used for multi-joint exercises. The wheelchair-accessible exercise equipment includes the Two-Person Chest Press, the Two-Person Lat Pull Down, and the Two-Person Vertical Press. The workout stations are surrounded by rolling green lawns and trees for shade.
