As locals in Newark, OH, we are blessed to be within driving distance of some truly enchanting local attractions. Today we are excited to share three remarkable attractions you can easily drive to and explore. Each destination offers a unique experience showcasing our region’s beauty, culture, and rich history.

Two people driving through a sunset.

1. Newark Earthworks

Begin your adventure at the historical landmark of Newark Earthworks at 455 Hebron Rd in Heath. This intriguing site features the exquisite handiwork of ancient American Indians and has the most extensive collection of geometric earthen enclosures globally. It’s worth noting that while there used to be many of these earthworks on this site, the city’s expansion has unfortunately led to the loss of many treasures.

Today, you can still witness the remnants of this rich history through the three earthworks sections that have withstood the test of time: Great Circle, Octagon, and Wright Earthworks. Excitingly, Newark Earthworks stands at the cusp of international recognition as this historic gem has been nominated to become Ohio’s first World Heritage site. While here, consider extending your journey 15 miles east to explore Flint Ridge, a nature preserve with ancient quarries.

2. National Trail Raceway

Prepare for an adrenaline-filled experience just an 18-minute drive away at 2650 National Rd SW in Hebron. This thrilling car racing track, established in 1964, is steeped in history and promises a heart-pounding experience. There’s always an exciting event happening at National Trail Raceway. To keep abreast of the latest races and happenings, navigate the raceway’s official website and click the “Events” tab.

Moreover, there’s an array of seating options to choose from. The no-limit VIP seating section offers an exclusive experience, while the indoor seating gives you comfort regardless of the weather. Consider the upgraded seating closer to the starting line for an up-close experience. We also advise downloading a digital copy of your ticket before arrival to ensure a seamless admission.

3. Buckeye Lake State Park

Take a scenic 25-minute drive to Buckeye Lake State Park at 2905 Leibs Island Rd NE in Millersport. This park offers diverse activities that will satisfy any outdoor enthusiast. Get ready to reel in the fun with some of the best fishing around, or go boating to explore the lake’s expanse. If you’re more of a land lover, you can stroll along the 4-mile shoreline that offers lovely lake views and a chance to connect with nature.

When winter descends, you can drive here in the comfort of your 2023 GMC Terrain, which has heated front seats and steering wheel, to enjoy winter activities such as ice fishing, skating, and boating.
